Sky-high levels of heartburst hype in sharing some news: as of this week, I’m the writer of The Flash.

On art, bona fide industry legend Mike Deodato Jr. joins me on a strange, superfast journey into uncharted shadows. The starter’s pistol fires with a brand new issue #1, dropping September 26th.

I could waffle for hours about mission statements and sly approaches to tonal adjustments, but here’s the simple version:

We're taking everything that sings about this cast of characters — silver age vibes, bombardments of cutting-edge ideas, humanity at its best, high octane action, family drama — then we’re folding it, slowly… steadily… towards cosmic horror.

It’s a helluva gambit for such an iconic brand, but DC are trusting us with a monumental shift in tone. And it works. It really really works.

Over the next year or two we’ll be hanging on to all that we love about Wally West and his beloved circle of family and friends, but steering them towards smart, scary, unnverving adventures on the bleeding edge of normality, where hungry things chitter in the gaps between the seconds.

This isn't a book about a guy who runs fast. It's a book about a world that's forgotten how to stop.
